What should I know about posting bail?

If the police arrest you, you are likely interested in it getting out as soon as possible. Typically, if you are in this position you will post bail.

No matter the reason why you need a bond, it is vital for you to understand the conditions of bail. If you are out of jail on bail, you must refrain from using drugs and alcohol, refrain from illegal activity of any sort and not “skip bail.”

Drugs, alcohol and illegal activity

It is always best to stay clean and sober when you are out on bail. You will want to keep a low profile during this time and not do anything of interest. Keep in mind that even if you are not on social media sharing pictures that anybody else can do so at any point. Having pictures of yourself out partying can cause a judge to look at your case less favorably.

Staying away from illegal activity has the same logic behind it. The main difference is that using drugs and alcohol on its own merit is merely unwise and not illegal.

Skipping bail

Depending on your situation, skipping bail made mean different things. The most obvious definition is if you do not show up for your court date. If you leave town without permission, this is also skipping bail. Once this happens, then the court will issue a warrant for your arrest. At this point, if anybody has put up collateral for your bail they will lose it.

If you cannot make it to your court date or you must travel for any reason why you are on bail, you must contact your bondsman first.
