Attempted traffic stop and chase leads to drug arrest

When Prescott Valley law enforcement make a traffic stop, drivers are expected to do what they are told and follow the instructions given by the officer. In some cases, however, the driver will choose to flee.

There could be a variety of reasons for this. Perhaps, the person was frightened and did not know what to do. They might have warrants for their arrest. It is possible they were under the influence or had drugs in the vehicle. In most cases, the officers will find the people in the vehicle and an arrest will be made. Once the charges are filed, the decision to flee makes it even more problematic. Those who are confronted with the charges related to fleeing law enforcement and other allegations should make certain to have a legal assistance to craft a defense.

Local law enforcement spotted a vehicle that was speeding. Officers stated that it was traveling at more than 50. After officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly took off. While it was still moving, the driver jumped from the vehicle and ran. The car crashed into a parked vehicle.

The passenger, a female, exited the vehicle and ran. She was caught moments later. The man was also caught. The woman, 27, and the man, 29, were arrested on numerous charges, including failing to stop for law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving recklessly and more.

By itself, an arrest for fleeing law enforcement can cause major problems in a person's life. It can negatively affect a person's driver license, result in heavy fines, an arrest and even jail. When that is combined with possession of drug paraphernalia on top of previous warrants, the people can have a hard time combating the allegations.

But, that does not mean they are automatically guilty and should be convicted. There may be extenuating circumstances, like addiction. There might be alternatives to jail, avenues to reduce the charges or be exonerated.

Although the litany of charges they face are serious, they must consider their options to handle the case. A law firm that helps people with drug charges, traffic offenses and other areas of defense should be called for representation.
