Two young men arrested on drug, theft charges

Prescott Valley police detained two young men, an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old, on misdemeanor crimes related to the use of drugs. In addition to the drug charges, police also say that they discovered evidence of other criminal activity. In the course of the investigation that originally was drug-related, police and prosecutors also filed multiple counts of theft and receiving stolen property.

By the final count, the young men are facing 6 felonies and 60 misdemeanors between the two of them. An investigation is ongoing, and so additional criminal charges are possible. Police have also called for those who are missing property to come forward in this case, but they have otherwise not provided detailed information about this ongoing investigation.

The charges against these two men, who still hopefully have a long life ahead of them, are very serious and cause permanent damage to their personal reputations and their professional opportunities in life. Perhaps of more immediate concern, any one of these charges can land these men in jail or even prison.

Additionally, they face fines and probation, and returning or paying for any stolen property is likely going to be a condition of that probation. While that may only seem right if the men are indeed guilty of stealing, sometimes the terms of repayment can be next to impossible to meet, especially if one cannot find a job.

Moreover, at this point, it is important to remember that these two have not yet had an opportunity to contradict the police’s version of events or otherwise defend themselves, which is of course their right. They will want to explore their legal options with an experienced Arizona criminal law attorney who has knowledge of the court system in the Prescott Valley area.
